About B.C.S.
Berkshire Christian School serves students in grades K – 8, with Preschool for ages 3 - 5. At BCS, children acquire the best of academic knowledge in an atmosphere guided by a Christian ethic of life and learning.
The mission of Berkshire Christian School is to offer academic excellence informed by the truth of Christ. Within this mission, we are guided by the principles of classical Christian education.
At Berkshire Christian School our goal is simple and powerful—we teach students to read, write, and reason, and we do that within the classical tradition, guided by the light of Scripture, the greatest books of the western tradition, an exemplary math curriculum, and an effective phonics-based reading approach.
The faculty of Berkshire Christian School is comprised of veteran teachers who offer caring and thorough classroom instruction, while engaging their students in developmentally-appropriate methodologies. From math to science, history to geography, literature to the arts, foreign languages to music, Berkshire Christian School emphasizes a classical progression of scholarship, beginning with the learning of indispensable factual knowledge (grammar), advancing to fluency in the relationships within this knowledge (logic), and culminating in the synthesized expression of the meaning of these relationships (rhetoric).
At Berkshire Christian School, students learn more than just their subject matter—they come to understand the most important academic skill of all—they learn how to learn. With small class sizes and strong family relationships, the staff at Berkshire Christian School is able to complement each student's particular strengths, carefully monitor each student’s progress, and supportively nurture each student’s gifts and abilities.
Berkshire Christian School was established in 1981 in response to the need for a Christ-centered, academically excellent education alternative in the Berkshires. Today, twenty-five years later, we continue to offer students the opportunity to grow academically, spiritually, and morally through a classical curriculum founded on the truth of Christ, "in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."
Today's Berkshire Christian School is a vibrant and friendly community of students, staff, families, and local churches. Within this community, under the guidance of a professional and attentive faculty, students at BCS are mentored for academic success and spiritual strength, preparing them for the challenging world of tomorrow.
Mission...
The mission of Berkshire Christian School is to offer an excellent academic education informed by the truth of Christ.
The staff of BCS endeavors to:
Help students achieve academic proficiency and a thorough understanding of the Christian worldview.
Cultivate personal Christian faith within each student.
Challenge students to develop moral integrity by adopting scriptural standards of achievement and behavior.
Affirm the God-given dignity and potential of each student.
Integrate parental involvement in the mission of the school.
At Berkshire Christian School, we believe that our mission is primarily academic, but that it would be incomplete without the contributions of the two great institutions of God's design: the family and the Church. With this conviction in mind, BCS works in concert with its families, and with the local churches of the Berkshire community to provide our students with the best of learning, character development, and Christian growth.
At Berkshire Christian School, students have the opportunity to receive a complete K-8 education, as they study a curriculum established on the truth of Christ. They are encouraged to participate and grow in their local churches. And each student's family is encouraged to be active in the life of the school.
